The Sekisui name is derived from a passage from "The Art of War", a classic Chinese text by Sun Tzu, an authority on military strategy:

A victorious fight takes form like the manipulation of amassed water into a deep canyon.

Essentially this signifies that to ensure success, one must first collect and analyse all possible data related to the task, create a sound organisation, prepare diligently, and then put together a strategy for victory much as you would to contain a great mass of water. By then taking the energy of manipulating this "sekisui" - or amassed water - down into the canyon, and turning it into the operative power, victory can be assured.
The Sekisui name was thus selected based on this precept of knowing and analysing overall corporate activity and conditions, creating an appropriate system based on the results, establishing a strategy for success and utilising the energy and the power of this "sekisui".

Osaka Castle
(The premier symbol of Osaka, the birthplace of the Sekisui Group. The castle - which has come to serve as a sign of economic prowess in Japan - was built under Hideyoshi Toyotomi, credited for the unification of Japan around the end of the 16th century.)
On March 3, 1947, Sekisui Chemical Industries Inc. - parent company of the Sekisui Group - was thus established with an initial capital of 100,000 Japanese yen (roughly $1,000) and a mere seven employees. The company thrived and moved into different fields, eventually leading to the creation of the Sekisui Group to handle business ventures outside the chemical industry. Since that time, owing partial success to its 3S motto (Service, Speed and Superiority), the Sekisui Group has grown and has itself expanded into a major conglomerate with over 196 companies in Japan, 26 companies internationally, and sales totalling over 3.5 trillion yen (US$29.5 billion). Within this group, Sekisui Aqua Systems Co., Ltd. was set-up to handle the development, manufacturing, and domestic and international marketing and sales for Sekisui water tanks.
